After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, the 2023 TJDA JSO Conference in Frisco Texas was much anticipated and well attended by a record number 95 registered attendees, not including board members and guest speakers.

The association’s intent this year was to promote the positives of working in this industry and long term goals to address retention issues within the industry across the State.  Included were segments on Self-Care and Burnout strategies, Mental Health for First Responders/Officers, How our Attitudes effect our judgement on the jobs, Toxic People, Qualities of an Effective Officer, Escape prevention and detection, and the power of Pension plans.

Collin County Chief H. Lynn Hadnot greeted the group Monday morning with opening remarks. Dr. Nathanial Hearne former coaching staff of Permian High School and author of the book “Friday Night Lights – behind the lights” spoke on Empowering At-Risk Youth Towards a Positive Legacy. All registered participants received a signed copy of his book.

The TJDA association rented a private balcony & air conditioned suite for those who wished to go watch the local minor league Texas Rangers affiliate team the Rough Riders in their win over Midland.

This year also marked a major step forward with both Counties and State sending officers, another nod to the continued movement towards more communication and cooperation between the two.
